Talking about HRTECH Architecture at HR.com

I used to do quite a lot of presentations and public speaking, at SAP and at Gartner.

For the last couple of years I've stepped back a bit from that, but Bri persuaded me it was about time I dusted off the old oratory skillz for the HR.com event. Initially my foray will be in zoom with a green screen, but perhaps sometime in 2022 I'll actually go to an in-person event or two, wear one of those funky flesh coloured microphone things and wander onto a stage.  Once a upon a time in Belgium I nearly walked off the edge of stage in a keynote, but I digress.

When I advise organizations using HRTECH, vendors selling it, and consultants and IT departments deploying it, one of the things that concerns me is the lack of common understanding about solution architecture.  This talk aims to give those parties a metaphor they can use to develop that common understanding.  We will use a plant-based metaphor but no oat milk.

So much of what you can do with technology is enabled or inhibited by the culture of the organization using the software, and the assuming those building it made about that culture.  I will spend some time exploring that. Conway's law will get some coverage.  I'll explain  4 archetypes of organizations, the pros and cons of each, and how this impacts how they use and buy software.

I'm hopeful that the talk will provoke you to think more deeply about software architecture and culture, and give you a memorable and easy way to discuss architecture. The session will be mainly aimed at organizations buying and using HR software, but it will be useful for software vendors too.

You can register (its free) for the HR TECH Symposium event here. I'll be talking on Monday the 4th October 9.00am Eastern time, 15h00 German time.  Would be cool to see you there, through the crack looking glass that is zoom.
